The word unkai translates to sea of clouds in Japanese, and witnessing this natural wonder truly lives up to its name. Open from mid-May to mid-October, the terrace is a must-visit summer destination. The best time to visit is in the early morning when the sea of clouds typically appears. However, it’s essential to check the weather forecast before planning your visit to ensure optimal viewing conditions.

Visitors must take a 13-minute gondola ride from Hoshino Resorts Tomamu. It’s recommended to arrive early and dress warmly, as morning temperatures can be quite chilly even in the summer months. The gondolas operate during specific hours, so it’s important to plan your visit accordingly.

On the terrace is Kumo Cafe, which offers a selection of teas, coffees, soups and pastries.
