The Tower Hotel

Some rooms in Nagoya’s The Tower Hotel have a wildly unique feature: structural beams of the tower protrude through the wall and disappear into the floor.

By James Rogers

Closely resembling the Eiffel Tower, Nagoya’s Mirai Tower (now a tangible cultural property of Japan) in Aichi Prefecture and the surrounding Hisaya Odori Park were extensively renovated in 2020, creating a beautiful tourist spot. The tower now features stunning animated illumination and is now accompanied by a large reflection pond and countless chic shops and restaurants.

However, the renovation’s crown jewel was turning a floor inside the tower into a hotel called The Tower Hotel. Nagoya is not well-known as a tourist destination. However, the city has changed significantly in recent years and attractions such as this unique hotel and the extensive renovations to the tower and its surrounding area make the city worthy of a stopover as tourists pass through from Tokyo to Kyoto.

As if staying overnight in a landmark tower isn’t interesting enough, some rooms have a wildly unique feature: a structural beam of the tower protrudes through the wall and disappears into the floor. If you are an architecture lover, this feature of the hotel will surely pique your interest. Moreover, if you are an art lover, you will appreciate how the rooms are decorated with art created by famous artists from the Tokai region.

The area surrounding Sakae station is known as Nagoya’s downtown and has endless restaurants, bars and shops to explore. However, you don’t need to stray far from the tower itself to enjoy yourself. The first, second and fourth floors are all part of The Tower Hotel and feature a variety of restaurants and cafes and under the tower itself is the popular bar Hub. The surrounding Hisaya Odori Park also has various food and upscale shopping options.

Large open grass areas surround the tower for anyone to sit and relax on; thus, these areas are always full of people sitting and relaxing with friends or even lying down and enjoying some sun.
