The geological origins of Shirahige Waterfalls add yet another layer of fascination. Formed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Tokachi, these falls showcase subterranean water streams out from between layers of lava and rock formations. Measuring about 40 meters wide and dropping around 30 meters, the waterfalls emanate the calming sound of cascading water, beckoning people to immerse themselves in nature’s grandeur.

By train

From Sapporo station, you can take the JR Kamui or Lilac limited express trains bound for Asahikawa. Once at Asahikawa station, transfer to the Dohoku bus heading to Shirogane onsen. From the Shirogane onsen bus stop, it’s just a short 3-minute walk to reach the waterfalls.

From New Chitose airport, you can take the JR Chitose line train to Sapporo station. From Sapporo, transfer to the JR Kamui or Lilac limited express trains bound for Asahikawa.
