Nijigahama Beach

Southern Japan's beautiful beach in technicolor.

With its long stretches of powdery sand and blue water, Nijigahama Beach is known to be the most beautiful in Yamaguchi Prefecture.  And, it even has a special event during the summer months, plus a convenient camping area.

Beach venture

The beach has pine trees all around it so there is always a coat of green beyond the sands. The area also becomes illuminated over July and August. At night the locals light up the beach in a spectrum of colours, adding to the beauty of this already very scenic place.

Phantom beach?

Yurigahama Beach, Kagoshima.
If you want to enjoy a full day at the beach, or even go for a night time swim, there is a camping ground just beyond the trees. Staying here not only gives you access to the beach but you are also very close to the city of Hikari and you can enjoy other things it has to offer such as cafes and restaurants that market themselves to beach goers.

The beach is a convenient spot with not only camping but restaurants, parking and restrooms and showers nearby.

About the area

A lot of the Japanese coast has been used for construction due to the lack of flat land. Most of the coast on the east side of Yamaguchi is factories and military stations, but the southern coast of Yamaguchi has the city of Hikari and Nijigahama Beach. The beach has even been named one of Japan’s “100 best beaches.”

On the most western tip of Honshu, Japan’s main island, lies Yamaguchi, part of the Chugoku region. The prefecture has a lot of farmland, but this means that you can see more of the beautiful nature of Japan, plus historical elements like the famous Kintai Bridge and Iwakuni Castle.
